The Meadow

All alone
You will find-
The sacred flame.

Within the fire,
Lies the tears,
That will calm the rising hunger.

Vengence is not far,
From the freezing plains,

And you must find,
The poison knife,
Thrice-blessed by
The tired goddess.

Within the sweltering meadow,
Lies the woman,
Kill her,
And you will end it all.
Coconut.

That's the smell that cascaded around her.

She knew that if she opened her eyes- even for a second- she would fall. Darkness enshrouded her figure, and the crescent moon lent her no light. The stars were barely shining in the dark clouds that hung above.

She fell among the sand, groping for a handhold in the spiny bark of the coconut tree. But to no avail- she landed with a thump. Wincing, she opened her eyes.

A hand grabbed her and yanked her up, not gentle at all.

"You are not supposed to be here."

Peace

There are so many places
Where people burn
Because there aren't enough spaces for everyone's turn
Too much power
Makes us wrong
We can't flower
Where pain is lifelong

Just close your eyes
And realize
Peace is not so far away
If we'd only let it stay

Why do we kill
When all we need to do is sing
Pass out goodwill
And you'll never have to sting
The dying
Will be unnecessary
An end to all crying
Let's be revolutionary

When those who are supposed to protect us
Jump up and hurt as the most
Will we let them oppress us?
We won't be ignored, like ghosts
We'll take our lives back
And if our world is good
We won't have to attack
And we'll finally be understood

Religion won't be a barrier
Culture won't be a wall
Peace is not so far away
If we only let it stay

Free write

A lot of people forget that one of the keys to writing is doing writing exercises. To get a flow, try doing a free write. Pick a topic, and let your mind wander for five minutes. Have you used this technique before? how did it go?

Ch-ch-check it out

A Couple Ways to Revise a Poem

Remember

Remember to live

Remember to laugh

Remember to love

Don’t get caught up with the past

Don’t get caught up with the future

Remember to be happy now

Remember.

Just remember.

Be Right

Don’t expect sadness

Just to get the happiness

Of escaping the dread

Feel the wind on your face

And expect happiness

Just to get the happiness

Of being right
